Last month, It’s a Style Thing decided to explore New York again and I stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton New York Downtown. As you know I love to travel and New York is one of my favourite places to visit because every trip (this was my fourth visit) is a different experience. Take a look at my trip last year, here, here and here.
One of my favourite things about travelling is staying in hotels and having everything done for me. No cooking, no major cleaning, just relaxing, perfection!
My brother and I decided we needed a break and had to go back to New York. We searched and searched for hotels that were not too far out and not super expensive. The last time we went to New York together we stayed at The Muse hotel which is less than 30 seconds walk from Times Square. A lot has changed since then, including the prices, it’s actually ridiculous. After the long search we finally decided on Four Points By Sheraton New York Downtown.
Four Points By Sheraton New York Downtown is a chain hotel and there are a few dotted around New York. We decided on the Downtown hotel because of the price and it’s located in financial district so it isn’t too far away from all the lights and all the action.
It took forever to get to Four Points By Sheraton because we used an airport shuttle service so there were a few other drop offs and the traffic was phenomenal. On the plus side we took the scenic route and the driver told us about the bridges and the tourist areas we passed.
By the time we arrived as you can imagine we were really tired and just wanted to get checked in and get comfortable. We were greeted by Michael on reception who had the biggest smile and made us feel so welcome. Check-in was really quick and we were so happy to find our room had been upgraded on arrival and Michael gave us complimentary drinks and breakfast vouchers. Michael also told us we had been put on the highest floor available, THANK YOU!
A short while after we checked in, we had a special delivery of balloons, a notebook, wine, stationery, the vouchers mentioned above and a mug with my brothers initial, they thought Rohan was the blogger. This was a lovely surprise and a really nice treat. They even got everybody from the front desk to sign a welcome card for us. We were totally spoilt and I have never been taken care of like this in a hotel before.
After the levels in Dubai and Las Vegas this year I knew this hotel wouldn’t be the same in terms of size but due to the room upgrade I remained hopeful. When we got into our room I was surprised at how small it really was considering it sleeps 4 people. I’m so thankful for the upgrade because we wouldn’t have been able to move at all in a smaller room. We didn’t plan on spending much time in the room anyway, we had loads to see and do.
The room was clean and tidy and the view from the 27th floor was great. It would have been nice to have a fridge for our drinks considering the ice room wasn’t on our floor. The beds were so comfy every time I sat on mine for longer than 5 minutes I fell asleep. I slept so well the entire 4 nights and we couldn’t hear a thing outside, on our floor or next door to us, it was really nice and peaceful. The room had a massive TV and I admit I did get sucked into the American TV shows that are a few episodes ahead of the UK. The wifi worked really well, there was an iron and ironing board in the room and coffee making facilities.
The bathroom was super clean and there was plenty of space for us to unpack our toiletries and hang our towels and pyjamas. The shower was very powerful (there were various settings) and it was easy to use. They must have been super prepared for our visit because there was a huge mirror, perfect for OOTD selfies! It’s a yes from me!
Thanks to the lovely people at Four Points By Sheraton, we ate at Ketch Brewhouse every morning. I worked my way through the menu and there was nothing I didn’t like. I was a little disappointed when they didn’t have any hot chocolate the last two days, hot chocolate is my thing. I mean how am I suppose to start my day without my hot drink? Coffee is a no no and tea just isn’t the same first thing in the morning. The food and the excellent customer service made up for it. I had my fair share of wraps, eggs and those yummy potatoes. Breakfast was on until 10:30am so we still got to have a nice lay in and had enough time to get ready and make it downstairs.
Four Points New York Downtown is in the financial district so it was pretty quiet over the weekend. However there are good subway links so you can head towards Times Square or Brooklyn really easily. There are numerous Deli’s, cafe and restaurants near by so there are loads of food options. The hotel is walking distance from Ground Zero and the new World Trade Centre shopping mall and you can visit the museum too. Sadly we didn’t go into the museum because the queue was extremely long and we didn’t fancy waiting in the rain.
I throughly enjoyed my stay at Four Points By Sheraton because the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they really made us feel welcome. The location is cool because it’s nice and quiet and not too far away from all the excitement. The only negative is the price, for what you get it’s really expensive. We booked through Booking.com so maybe it would have been cheaper to book direct. The exchange rate was in a bad state at the time we travelled so that didn’t help but I still found the rate and all the extra taxes etc very expensive for the size of the room and the facilities in the hotel.
Big love to the team at Four Points By Sheraton New York Downtown for impeccable service and taking the best care of us.
Let me know what you think,
Dom Dominique xx
